It all started when...

Susan Shantora, private voice teacher, choral conductor and school music teacher decided Yellowknife needed a Music Festival and so, in 2007, through Susan and the support of the membership of Classics on Stage Yellowknife, the Festival came into being.  In 2016, the Music Teachers Association-NWT, after co-producing the Festival with C.O.S.Y. for a couple of years, took over responsibility.  As a member of the Alberta Music Festival Association it offers classes that lead to performance opportunities at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival.  In 2017, one Yellowknife student placed first in her piano class and a Yellowknife adult community choir placed second!
Many thanks go to our sponsors: NWT Department of Education and Culture, Capital Suites, Yellowknife Education District No.1 and private donors for their continued support of our Festival.

today......

over 600 students in the City of Yellowknife participate each year and the entire event is run by volunteers.
