Membership of MTA-NWT is open to all music teachers of students who reside in the Northwest Territories, Canada

All persons teaching music lessons privately, in groups or in an institution are encouraged to join the Society.

  • Information about and eligibility for their students to enter the Yellowknife Music Festival

  • Eligibility for their students who are resident in Yellowknife to receive scholarships from MTA-NWT through the Yellowknife, Provincial or Regional Music Festivals

  • Be on our mailing list to receive information about MTA-NWT workshops, concerts and other events for teachers and/or their students

  • Students of members may take part in all MTA-NWT programs as long as they are residents of the NWT, including students whose home is in the NWT but are temporarily living in other provinces for educational purposes

  • All Members of the Society will be accorded the right to vote at Annual General Meetings and Special General Meetings.

  • We are now members of the Canadian Federation of Music Teacher's Association. As a full member of both the Territorial and National organizations, you will receive a monthly newsletter, access to workshops and competitions and, for an additional fee, as well as $5,000,000 in liability insurance for your studio and recital venues through CFMTA.

Become a Member

  • Memberships are renewable annually and run from January through December.

  • Receipt of a completed membership form by the MTA Board of Directors, in addition to the membership fee constitutes membership in the Society.

  • There are several types of membership. You can view the full schedule of Membership Designations here. Please review the criteria for each and the fee schedule to decide which designation applies to you. Supporters who are not music teachers are also welcome to join.

  • Please view our Code of Ethics.

  • Members of the Society should familiarize themselves with the MTA bylaws. These documents are available in the Members’ section of the website. The password is available to paid up members and can be obtained by emailing nwtmusicteachers@gmail.com

  • If you live outside the territory but teach students on line who reside in the NWT who wish to participate in MTA-NWT programs such as the Yellowknife Music Festival or the Music Sundays concert series, you need to join the society.

  1. Complete and submit a Membership/Renewal Form.

  2. To assist with keeping our records straight please complete and submit a new form each season as both questions and answers will change from time to time.

  3. Pay the appropriate annual Membership Fee online through Paypal using your credit card or your own Paypal account, email your payment to mta.nwt.treasurer@gmail.com, or contact the Treasurer to arrange to pay by cash or cheque.
